London 1984-1993 After leaving the RAM, Mark freelanced with most of the top UK orchestras, opera and ballet companies. He was ‘Bolero’ soloist for the London Concert Orchestra playing it over 150 times at the Barbican and Royal Festival Hall. BBC National Orchestra of Wales 1993-2006 Mark was appointed Principal Trombone in February 1993. As well as his orchestral duties, Mark enjoyed a very successful solo career. A few highlights: 1995 World premiere recording of Jean Françaix - ‘Concerto for Trombone and Ten Winds’ with BBCNOW conducted by Adrian Leaper. 1997 Mark recorded and broadcast “live” Michael Nyman’s – ‘Concerto’ with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gregory Rose. 1998 World Premiere performance and recording of ‘The Spindle of Necessity’ by John Pickard, commissioned for Mark by the BBC conducted by Martyn Brabbins. 2000 BBC Choice TV recording of Paul Hindemith Sonata with Christopher Williams, Piano 2001 Swansea Festival and BBCR3 broadcast of ‘Fratres’ by Arvo Part arranged for Trombone and Strings, with BBCNOW conducted by Petri Sakari. 2002 St. David’s Hall and Brangwyn Hall concerts featuring Takemitsu Fantasma/Cantos II, BBCNOW conducted by Tadaaki Otaka. 2004 World Premiere performance and recording of ‘Trombone Concerto’ by Alun Hoddinott, commissioned for Mark by the BBC conducted by Grant Llewellyn. |
